Name: Gary Seibel

Position: research engineer, supervisor of the Environmental Science and Technology Project Development Center

Years at Maryland: 27

Beneficiaries of his gift through the Faculty Staff Campaign: the Biological Resources Engineering Scholarship Fund

Why he gives: Students have to build, test, modify and re-test a project before presenting it to faculty, orally and in writing. The fund helps pay for stipends given to undergraduate senior students completing their capstone project. It is a valuable experience, he says, because "the project helps them work in groups and learn to delegate." The fund also helps cover the costs of other learning activities.
